Today Graphic Designer and Freelance Writer Ian Lowey came to give a lecture at my university. He wrote a book called 'The Graphic Art of the Underground: A Countercultural History' along with his wife and fellow writer Suzy Prince. The book draws upon the work of an array of artistic figures such as Ed Roth, Kenny Howard, Robert Williams, Robert Crumb and Martin Sharp to name a few. He is also the graphic designer for the website PlanetVintageGirl.com. He and his wife published a magazine called Nude which gave artists and designers who wouldn't usually have their work shown an outlet. The magazine ran for 17 issues from 2003-2011 which is quite an achievement for a team of two. I really like the style of Nude Magazine as the layout reminds me of a scrapbook which is my kind of style. While it was interesting hearing about how he had made it from the ground up, as a fine artist his work does not really inspire me in any way as it is so different from mine.
