Today Scott Duffey and Jonny Kimber came to give us a lecture. Scott Duffey is a former student of the Chester University and is now a designer and illustrator based in Liverpool, he told us that having many contacts is important and that we should all keep in contact with each other after graduation. He got his first job from speaking to a fellow college when working at pizza express, who mentioned a music magazine which he went on to make illustrations for. He is also one half of a print duo Tucan Tango who sell screen prints from their website.
Jonny Kimber is a Senior Interface Designer for Noncomform, which is a company that helps companies better connect with people by updating their websites and brand etc. His job working as an entry level designer at a different company but was then made redundant after just 8 months. He then took an entry level job at his current company and after just 8 months became the head designer. His advice was to do as much work experience as possible as this will look good on your cv and impress employers. Although they had some good advice Scott and Jonny's work did not interest me much as it is not related to where my interests lie and did not inspire me.
Below is a poster made by Scott Duffey for Liverpool Independent's Gin Festival.
