Today I visited the Tate in Liverpool where I had the privilege to view Tracey Emin's piece 'My Bed' 1998. As I was viewing the piece it felt as if I was reading her diary as in the piece she reveals intimate details of her life. An extract from the Tate website tells us that 'Tracey shows us her own bed, in all its embarrassing glory. Empty booze bottles, fag butts, stained sheets, worn panties: the bloody aftermath of a nervous breakdown. By presenting her bed as art, Tracey Emin shares her most personal space, revealing she's as insecure and imperfect as the rest of the world.' Seeing this piece in person has given me a new love for it, I admire the fact that Emin is not afraid to be vulnerable in front of the world and is allowing the viewer to get to know her on another level. However, while enjoyed viewing this piece it did not inspire me with regard to my project.
